I am one of the many UNISA students who have completed a degree at the institution and will be completed in 2013. I spent most of the last five years studying part time with your institution while working; It was a triumph for me, really. It was with great adversity and determination that I have come to this point in my life, there were times when I felt total despair and doubt that the completion of my degree was unattainable and beyond my scope. However, the hope and the faith and support of vested in me by my family was the motive.
After many long nights, early mornings, of zeros free days, minimum sleep and simple idea to write an examination and rushing back to work on the same day, in accordance with the requirements of the development of my studies means more to me than any 18-20 year old goes out from a full-time education, either on a stock exchangefull financial aid, or parents with well-adjusted pots of money. For me the weights to raise a family and laying me offers every deserved recognition, sparing no expense.
What irks me to the very core is that UNISA had used a church as a meeting place to confer degrees on students warned us while taking into account our diversity?Very Reason I completing a degree later in life is all thanks to a minority and who has admitted an apartheid system that excluded the majority of South Africans. I am not a Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish or Buddhist seems to me an insult for me that my degree is conferred on me in a church in which such places of worship just 19 years ago, it was not open to all people of color. Do not visit the churches, mosques, synagogues or temples, and I did not commit to any religion, alliances which in retrospect is indicative of my displeasure at being awarded a place in that bar the exclusion of people of color in the churches ' dispensation ' precedent? Take my degree and their implementation with regard to the very large, to receive it in a church, a place reserved for the Christian confession would minimize any default values, I value every battle I tried unselfish and suffered from in the past 30 years. The UNISA killed again the rights of pupils and this won't be the first time they have tried to do so. During the second semester 2012 Exams, some students who were late to enter places of examination of just 2 minutes, were ushered away from the noisy Campus only to miss their exam? I'm sure you would have no doubt been there a Jewish synagogue, Hindu temple or a mosque available such places would have been met with great circumspecție you.
Confer a degree on me instead that synthesizes Conference fight the majority of South Africans who fought against the trough education, those who are completing degrees now to dispensation dribble that made it impossible to do so!
Provide a neutral place where we can stand proud to receive our degrees from a University with a vision to support transformation and change?
Give me my degree in a society inclusive of all individuals open neutral black, white, Brown, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, atheist, agnostic, etc. it seems to me a feeling of exclution in this case and would rather have my studies under me failing in such a case. I am as disappointed and dismayed with the thought that I have a degree from a University that has no respect for or respect for the diversity of its students!!\
